Baby Cakes

What fun!  This is a fun cake to do and super cute, but I've always made it for a baby boy.  (Will someone ever want a pink diaper?!)  This cake was made for a couple's shower and needed to feed about 50.  Tom, another great camp friend of mine, ordered a chocolate-flecked cake with chocolate hazelnut buttercream and a lemon poppyseed cake with cream cheese frosting.  Both cakes are covered in homemade fondant.

This cute couple are clearly excited to welcome their new little one in to the world.  Congrats and blessings to both Amanda and Jer!

Pow! Bam! Wow!

Andrew turned FIVE and had a fantastic SUPER HERO party this weekend!  We asked who his favorite Super Hero was and were told that he loved them all.  I thought this cake would sum it up nicely.  We've got a little Captain America, Superman, Batman and even Spiderman.  It's a start, right?

Top tier is Chocolate-Flecked cake and the bottom tier is Chocolate.  Both have buttercream filling and frosting and both are topped with homemade fondant.

Happy Birthday Andrew!

Hoot! Kalli's Twooooo!

Kalli turned two this last week and her mom Angie, ordered a Cake Mama cake for the special occasion. Angie wanted the cake to coordinate with the invites, but left the design up to me.   Aren't these invites the cutest?

I opted to make the top owl on the invite for the cake and I tried my best to color match the frosting.

A fun challenge on this cake was creating the gingham look on the owl.  I used Wilton's food spray and prayed for the best.  Lucky for me, I think she turned out cute!

I used the same gingham pink to top the cupcakes and topped each with either a K for Kalli or a 2.

Angie sent over these pictures of the cake at the party.  Phew!  I think the color match was right-on!!

Happiest of birthdays to you, dear Kalli!

Are You Ready For Some Football?

Kim ordered a football cake for her son's 9th birthday party.  He was having some friends over this weekend to help him celebrate.  Kim opted for the chocolate-flecked cake with fudge and Oreo filling.  I really can't wait to hear how this combination tasted!  It sounded delicious!

I covered the cake with chocolate fondant and added the white fondant accents and buttercream grass.

I hope the birthday boy had a spectacular birthday!

Clare's Tinker Bell Cake et al

I love the birthday party themes for Clare!  She's had My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake, and The Little Mermaid.  This year it was Tinkerbell.  I couldn't wait!

Krisite, Clare's mom, requested Cake Pops or Cupcakes and a Cake or a combination of two, or all of them...enough to "feed the masses".  Clare was having a big party this year and 50 guests were coming.  25 kids, 25 adults.  They needed to have cake.  In ALL forms, right?

First thing was the cake pops.  I thought that going with a Pixie Dust look would be elegant and fun.  Ben Franklin Crafts had the gold sugar and I just about flipped out when I found the green leaf ribbon!!!

And then I made cupcakes.  I wanted them to look like a bouquet of flowers and am really happy with how they turned out.  These are chocolate cupcakes with buttercream filling.

I found the cutest Tinker Bell jewelry box (actually it was Wendy's Jewelry box, but Tink just topped it!) and thought it was the right size to top Clare's cake.  This cake was a chocolate-flecked cake with buttercream frosting and filling.  I decorated the cake with buttercream vines and flowers.

And this year, Clare turned five!

I hope she had a blissful birthday party!  I can't wait to hear all about it!

Constructor Desmond

Last year, Des was a world traveler.  This year, it's all about construction trucks, crews and buildings.  For Des' party his parents requested a cake for this theme.  Once I discovered these fabulous construction toys, I knew the cake would come together in a fun fashion.

The cake itself was a chocolate-flecked cake with chocolate cream cheese frosting.  I used chocolate covered raisins and malted milk balls for the border and topped the cake with crushed Oreos.

I hope Des had a great party!!

Welcome Baby Boy!

My second pair of gum paste shoes in a month.  I'm LOVING these things!  How cute are they?  Cathy wanted a baby boy shower cake and sent me a copy of the invitation to base the cake on.  The invitation had polka dots and a little blue bib on it.  I incorporated the polka dots on the side of the cake and made the bib for the top.  I put together a pair of little boy shoes for the topper and I think this is just about one of the cutest cakes, if I do say so myself.   ;)

This was a chocolate cake with chocolate fudge, buttercream and OREO filling.  One of my favorites and sure crowd pleaser!

Congrats to the soon-to-be mommy!

Noah and Mason

Sometimes last minute cakes come together easier than ones I had been planning on.  This is one of those cakes that just kind of came together.  I didn't really have a design in mind other than to inlcude a lime green "flicker scooter" and an "orange longboard" somehow.  This is what I came up with for Noah and Mason's birthday cake:

The good news is that orange and green look pretty cool together.  :)

Half of this cake was red velvet, and the other half was yellow with raspberry filling.  All of it was frosted with cream cheese frosting which was whipped for 6 minutes...DELISH!!!

I hope Mason and Noah's birthday celebration was a blast!
